Jackie Barney
Treasurer, Second Helpings Hawaii
Jackie Barney is a woman of faith, she is grateful for the blessings of 53 years with her husband, the gifts of 3 sons, 6 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Of utmost importance is her commitment to care for her family and serve the community.
Jackie was employed for 37 years before retiring in 2016. Jackie was hired as a teller at First Federal Savings and Loan in 1975. In 1987, she resigned as the Operations Support Manager of 26 branches to pursue opportunities in the Super Market industry. Jackie joined Star Markets Ltd, with the task to install and coordinate operations for ATM machines, Wire Funds Transfer terminals and Electronic devices at the registers (POS) that would accept bank cards and electronic food stamp cards. In 2005 Jackie retired as the Information Systems Manager.
In 2009, Jackie came out of retirement to work with her Pastor at St. John Vianney Parish in Kailua as a Secretary. It is there that Jackie found her calling to serve as a Catholic Prison Ministry Volunteer at the Women’s Correctional Community Center. She truly believes as it says in scripture that we must give our time to serve others in need. Jackie now coordinates the Catholic Volunteer activities with the inmates at Windward Community Correctional Center. She and many other dedicated prison ministry volunteers share their time by conducting church services, mentoring one-on-one sessions and sharing the “Word of God” in Bible study classes. Upon release, Jackie presents to an inmate a “new start basket” filled with personal items and linens that one needs as they move into a “Women In Need” (WIN) transitional home. Jackie serves as a Board Member for WIN and offers the women spiritual mentoring visits, support for job search skills, clothing for job interviews, money management and access to bus transportation.
Jackie currently serves as the Treasurer for Second Helpings Hawaii.
